Bonfield citizens are disappointed by an unsigned letter published through Canada Post comparing the noise of drag tracks to the oppression of blacks.
It was posted on the Bonfield Community Watch Facebook page and circulated temporarily through members of the organization calling it “embarrassing” and “disgusting. “
Only known as written “in the call of the neighbors (victims) of the racecourse”, the header is in capital letters: OUR COMPTE LIFE. Below is “The knee on the neck is so symbolic!”
“We have continually complained about the excessive noise of the racetrack and its related activities,” the letter says. “But he fell into deaf ears. We, like George Floyd, the African-American guy who was killed in an arrest in Minneapolis, implore the municipality not to kneel on his neck because we can’t breathe, we suffer for it. “
The noise factor on the track made headlines this week with Bonfield Event Park on its first public occasion in endurance racing from Friday to Sunday.
The occasion was on the calendar of the Bonfield Emergency Control Group on Tuesday, as were all the giant meetings that planned the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Randy McLaren said they also had noise mitigation considerations.
The owner, Lisa Groves, told the BayToday. ca was following all the recommendations set out in the engineer’s most recent study on the effects of noise. Groves also said he checked tests for sound grades and melodies and a small personal service like this summer and that decibel readings were below limits.
On Wednesday, McLaren told BayToday. ca that his agreement officer had made a stopover at the site in “and showed that everything was in order,” adding that Groves had also responded to his written request to verify that noise mitigation was being managed. He stated that members of the organization had discussed the threat of COVID-19 spreading through runners and participants on scale, limited to one hundred masked spectators and a required social distance.
On Thursday night, another call was made to the mayor to comment on the letter and a message was left.
The distressed recipients of the letter reported having found it in their mailboxes in the Canada Post and in their mailboxes.
A Bonfield resident with the facebook nickname Shelby Erna Katherine Taylor posted the letter on the Bonfield Community Watch page. His advent captured the maximum temperament that the idea of the letter was irrelevant to compare noise disorders with police oppression and the murder of blacks: “Who has the brazenness of sending a letter like this,” he said, noting that there was no signature. “What a shame this user is. “
Canada Post has been contacted and we are an answer.
BayToday. ca will update this story when you have the reaction of elected officials, as well as more information about who wrote the letter.
