The Thai Tourism Authority (TAT) invites tourists to come and delight with the striking view of the “pink water lily lake” at Nong Han Kumphawapi, a freshwater lake in Thailand’s northeastern province, Udon Thani.
With an area of 36 km2, the lake is one of the most important wetlands in Thailand. And every single year at this time, a carpet of brightly colored flowers covers the surface.
You can hire private cruises to see the water lilies up close and enjoy the herb landscape filled with a variety of fish, birds and other aquatic species.
A tip: get up early, as the best time to see the flowers in full bloom is 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Udon Thani is also known for the archaeological wonders of the Ban Chiang World Heritage site, home to the world’s first Bronze Age. civilization would have flourished more than 5,000 years ago.
