Texas hospital posts alarming increase in number of under-suicide patients, nearly one per day last month

Doctors at a North Texas youth hospital say they have noticed an “alarming” increase in the number of young people committing suicide as young people war over school closures and coronavirus school closures.

“We see young people every day telling us they are struggling,” said Dr. Kia Carter, medical director of psychiatry at Cook Children’s, referring to the accumulation of youth suicides, which the hospital said represented around a new patient per day in August according to KTVT News.

The hospital admitted 29 young people in August as a result of suicide attempts, and this year entered 192, more than double the amount admitted at the same time five years ago.

Carter believes that the past goes back to life in general and schooling has contributed to the desperation that young people express when they are admitted.

Doctors and hospitals across the country have reported an increase in self-harm incidents, adding suicides and drug overdoses, since the onset of coronavirus blockades in March.

A study conducted earlier this year through Just Facts concluded that anxiety and social disruption of lockdowns can destroy seven times more years of human life than can be stored by strict lockdowns.
