Teuns joins Bahrain McLaren Landa in tour of France

Dylan Teuns says he is in a position to fully commit to helping Mikel Landa, bahrain’s team leader McLaren, in his efforts to win the 2020 Tour de France, while the Belgian was free to win a level win. at La Planche des Belles Filles at last year’s Grand Boucle.

“The team has a lot of ambition for ratings with Landa, and we intend to do so,” Teuns told Het Laatste Nieuws on Thursday. “You may have some freedom here and there, but the initial goal is to ride at your service, and we have a strong team with Wout Poels, Damiano Caruso and Pello Bilbao.”

While Bahrain McLaren has not yet revealed his last 8 drivers for this year’s Tour, we evaluated last month the imaginable team of the WorldTour team, which included Poels, Caruso, Bilbao and Teuns to help Landa on the podium in Paris, and which would make a very strong team face the strength of Team Ineos and Jumbo-Visma.

While Teuns said he would be pleased in his more likely role as a luxury domestic on the Tour, the 28-year-old told Cyclingnews at the team’s education camp last December that he would still like to one day have the opportunity to travel the Overall Ranking on a Grand Tour.

“My level won in the Tour, a turning point in my career,” he said Thursday in HLN.be, recalling his functionality last year at level 6 at La Planche des Belles Filles, where he beat Giulio Ciccone of Trek-Segafredo for the biggest win of his career so far.

“My prestige in the team has greatly increased. Besides, among the fans, I noticed that everything has changed. I am identified more often; other people who don’t stick to the race see the Tour.”

If Teuns has plans for a Grand Tour victory, it can mean a replacement for the team, he said he would rather stay with Bahrain McLaren as things stand.

“Staying is my first choice because I feel very smart here,” he said, admitting that there had been donations from several other teams. “I probably wouldn’t call, but there’s interest.

“Normally I would be a little nervous in this situation,” said Teuns, whose contract ends after this season, as the additional complication of the 2020 season has been interrupted by the coronavirus crisis.

“If you’re at the end of your contract, it should be shown with smart functionality as soon as possible, but now that we haven’t been able to execute it, I found it less difficult to put the considerations aside.” he said.
