Tesla’s original Cybertruck appears on inventory page, indicating lower demand

The Tesla Foundation Series now appears on Cybertruck’s stock page, an indication of declining demand for Tesla’s ultimate electric pickup truck.

In fact, the Foundation Series is the only Cybertruck available on the inventory page as of the afternoon of December 24. (Note that inventory is very dynamic and levels can rise and fall quickly.)

The Foundation Series was the only Cybertruck that was delivered to customers for most of the year (until October). It was available to early adopters but there was a catch: you had to pay a premium of roughly $20,000 above the price of a “regular” Cybertruck. That means you pay around $100,000 for the Foundation Series AWD Cybertruck (versus $79,990 for non-Foundation Series) and $120,000 for the Cyberbeast (vs $99,990). You do get some extras like Full Self Driving (an $8,000 option for non-Foundation Series), a Foundation Series badge, Powershare Home Backup capability, and bragging rights to owning a Foundation Series.

The fact that the Foundation Series appears on the stock page is a sign of lower demand, as this page is reserved for unsold vehicles. What else has changed: The prestige of owning a Foundation Series Cybertruck has faded as the source fulfilled the order in recent months. This is very evident in places like Los Angeles (where I live). Cybertrucks are no longer uncommon these days. But Tesla – for now – is sticking to the initial price. The dual-motor Foundation Series AWD is still $100,000 ($99,990) and the three-motor Cyberbeast is still $120,000 ($119,990). One of the benefits is that the FS AWD and Cyberbeast are available for immediate pickup.

Since the Foundation Series was aimed at early adopters, the unsold shares are most likely an indication that enthusiasm peaked at lower levels than Tesla predicted. Additionally, non-Foundation Cybertrucks on CT’s regular (out of stock) home page appear, in some cases, “available today,” indicating backorders and wait times may be in effect. much of it belongs to the past. S&P Global Mobility said demand for the Cybertruck declined in September and October, according to a Reuters report. That said, it is the third best-selling electric vehicle in the third quarter in the United States, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Tesla Cybertruck shares on the afternoon of 12/24. AWD Series and Cyberbeast Foundation.
