Tesla reportedly intends to delay the unveiling of its “Robotaxi” driverless vehicle for a few months.
For several years now, Tesla has been operating with a vehicle designed from the beginning to be an autonomous vehicle. The company calls it “Robotaxi. “
CEO Elon Musk insists that Tesla is still committed to bringing the promised autonomous driving capability to existing cars delivered since 2016 through a software update, but it also has to build a new vehicle designed entirely around the fact that it will be self-driving.
Not much is known about the vehicle, other than hints that it will have no steering wheel or pedals and will resemble a “Cybertruck” in terms of design. We may have also seen a look at the interior in a video released by Tesla.
In April, Musk announced that Tesla would unveil the vehicle on Aug. 8.
However, Bloomberg now reports that the filing will be postponed until October:
Tesla Inc. is delaying the unveiling of its planned robotaxi until October or August, to give the groups performing the task more time to build more prototype vehicles, according to other people familiar with the decision.
He wanted the 8/8 date to get the vote on his salary package. Elon is smart but has a dire need for government. This is not a mom-and-pop shop; It is a publicly traded company.
Electrek previously reported that Tesla planned to match the unveiling with the coming online of a new supercluster computing platform at Gigafactory Texas to train its robotaxi, but that Tesla insiders believed the project, which was accelerated as part of a restructuring earlier this year, could be delayed.
This wouldn’t be the first time Tesla has delayed a presentation. However, this one is particularly appealing because Tesla will most likely introduce a vehicle that simply wouldn’t work yet because it hasn’t yet figured out autonomous driving.
I don’t think autonomous driving will be resolved until October, but Tesla can take advantage of every moment.
Perhaps they will announce a geolocation service in a fast city until October. We’ll see.
