College interns serve as a seed for companies looking to prepare those young people to become the company’s future leaders.
So it’s a bad sign that Tesla is rescinding summer internship offers just weeks before they start, Bloomberg reports, sending more signals that all is not well at CEO Elon Musk’s car company, which has been hit by sweeping layoffs in recent weeks.
Some of those aspiring Tesla interns have taken to LinkedIn to explain their problems and ask if they could be offered an internship of choice for the summer, according to the news outlet.
“At 8:46 a. m. , I opened an email from Tesla to get data on the flights,” Joshua Schreiber, a student at Miami University in Ohio, wrote in a LinkedIn post that went viral Wednesday. , my internship offer had disappeared. “
Another potential intern, Brook Gura of the University of Texas at Austin, also wrote an article about the cancellation of his internship at Tesla.
“This summer, I was excited about the opportunity to work as an intern at Tesla,” he wrote. “Yesterday, I won a call informing me that, just 3 weeks before my start date, my job offer had been cancelled as part of the company’s big #licencias. “
This is an incalculable number of practices. A 2022 Tesla report states that the company offers more than 3,000 internships to students each year.
The revocation of internships is particularly concerning because, as Bloomberg notes when mentioning data from Glassdoor, some of those positions pay between $18 and $28 per hour or are unpaid positions; in other words, the lowest positions you can have in the company.
It’s just another sign that things are bleak at Musk’s automaker, which has been rocked by layoffs and departures of key executives, amid a broader stalemate in EV sales.
It doesn’t help that Musk seems too broad, with his corporate advertising space SpaceX and social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Instead of correcting the attack on Tesla, he seems to be busy posting in X, complaining about this week’s university protests over the Gaza standoff, or giving his opinion on birth rates.
This constant divisive publication has almost in fact accused car customers. After repeating how much he hates California, Golden State citizens have become more bloodless toward the automaker, and Tesla vehicle registrations have declined in the last quarter.
