SHANGHI (Reuters) – Tesla plans to export Chinese-made Model 3 cars to Asian and European markets, two sources told Reuters on Friday.
The U. S. automaker, which began delivering Model 3 electric sedans from its Shanghai plant in December, also plans to sell Model 3 cars manufactured in China, Japan and Hong Kong next year, said one of the resources.
Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.
The U. S. company is expanding its production capacity in China to manufacture Model Y gaming application cars (SUVs) and is adding lines to manufacture more batteries, engines, and engine controllers.
Tesla, which aims to build 150,000 Model 3 cars manufactured in Shanghai this year, sold about 11,800 cars in China last month.
Resources refused to be named because they are allowed to speak to the media. Bloomberg announced the plan the previous Friday.
