Tesla’s inventory tripled from $413.13 at the end of 2019 to $1374.39 at the close of Tuesday. After the news, he jumped more than 13% to $1,554.76 on Wednesday.
The increase in inventory is partly due to an accumulation of purchases through retail investors, and the division can take this into account, Baird inventory analyst Ben Kallo said in a study note. “We believe that the equity department is a recognition that the market is increasingly influenced by individual investors, who join those seeking exposure to next-generation transportation,” he said. “In the past we had pointed to TSLA as a call that could gain advantages from the growing influence of retail investors.”
Tesla’s growing market capitalization has also deeply enriched Musk this year, helping him qualify for billions of dollars in additional company shares as a component of a long-term payment program. Forbes estimates Musk’s $68 billion network at the close of operations on Tuesday.
