Tesla Model Y took the most sensible spot on Europe’s best-selling car list in September, and it’s possible the electric SUV will stay there for a while.
Over the years, Tesla cars have become the best-selling cars in some European markets.
However, it has never topped the list of best-selling cars on the entire European continent until now.
Reuters announced this achievement, on new car registration data published through JATO Dynamics:
It’s the first time Tesla’s gaming app vehicle has topped ratings in Europe, London-based JATO Dynamics said Wednesday, as 29,367 Model Y cars were registered last month, 227 more than last year.
The Tesla Model Y took first place from the second-placed Peugeot 208, and Renault’s Dacia Sandero took third place in September’s best-selling car rankings. Both cars are also much less expensive than Tesla’s electric SUV.
The electric SUV capable of occupying the most sensible place thanks to increased availability thanks to Tesla’s increased production at Gigafactory Berlin.
Tesla showed that Gigafactory Berlin achieved a production rate of 2,000 Model Y cars in one week at the end of September. These Model Y SUVs are superficially targeting European markets, and Tesla continues to import more Model Y cars to Europe from China.
Now that the most sensible place has been taken, I think the Tesla Model Y can hold it for a while.
Tesla’s production rate of 2,000 weekly games was only reached at the end of September and therefore will only affect deliveries in the fourth quarter.
These cars are among the roughly 20,000 additional Tesla cars that were in transit at the end of the quarter.
Also, Tesla doesn’t stop at 2,000 cars per week. The automaker is trying to increase Gigafactory Berlin’s production to 5,000 Model Ys per week, which is expected to especially increase uptime and lead times in Europe.
If demand can continue, the Model Y will have no problem staying at the top of the bestseller list in Europe, and perhaps soon around the world.
