At the time, the Toyota Prius was the most sensitive in the eco-conscious car market. Wow, how things have changed.
When I moved to my Community in Los Angeles in 2013, the Toyota Prius was so ubiquitous that it was almost invisible. Like the symptoms of speed restriction that angels cheerfully ignore.
In short, the Japanese hybrid buys the default eco-friendly car for any tree that is tended in California, as well as anyone looking to save money on gas.
Unstoppable Toyota. In the first quarter of 2012, Toyota sold 247,230 Prius hybrids worldwide, beating Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic and Volkswagen Golf. In the United States, in April 2012, Toyota sold 25168 Prius in North America.
Fast-forward until the summer of 2020. Tesla is estimated to have sold more than 18,800 Model 3 in California in the first quarter of 2020, while Toyota sold about 11,500 Prius in North America during the quarter.
Los Angeles: it’s now
In my neighborhood and on the wider net, there is now a plague of 3 models. Some days I locate several Model 3 (all owned by neighbors) parked on the street just outside my home and on my network northwest of Los Angeles, the Model 3 is not as unusual as the Prius before.
Being “used to be” the key word for the Toyota hybrid.
And remember, the Model 3 is rarely a $25,000 Prius. We’re talking about a car that starts at $37,990 and is bought for much more.
And the Model Y, which already looks like in my community, starts at $49,990, necessarily the value of two Prius.
How long will the Tesla domain last? He’s at Tesla.
Tesla is almost synonymous with electric cars in the United States. So, like the Prius 2012, it’s buying an environmentally conscious no-brainer.
Tesla will remain the wisest as long as it continues to win over the former owners of Prius and the millions of Americans their first electric vehicle purchase. And as long as you don’t drop the ball in quality control.
