Tesla has added a new 240V AC evaluator to its offerings, but surprisingly, it can’t qualify a Tesla unless it’s an adapter. Instead, and as the call suggests, the J1772 wall connector uses the J1772 specification plug, which is popular for all electric cars in the U. S. U. S. electric cars other than Tesla electric cars.
According to Tesla’s website, the $550 J1772 wall box appears to have features for the $400 edition it sells with a Tesla plug at the end. Its charging output will end up at the circuit breaker to which it is connected. a maximum output of 12 amps and 2. 8 kW; at the other end of the scale, a 60-amp circuit breaker allows for 48 amps and 11. 5 kW. For comparison, the popular Juicebox AC charger costs $689 for the 48-amp, 11. 5kW edition.
In fact, it’s rarely the first time Tesla has released a wall box with a J1772 plug. According to Electric, that’s precisely what it did a little less than a year ago. It used the internals of Tesla’s second-generation wall box and was only capable of a maximum of 40 amps and 9. 6 kW and lacked Wi-Fi, but it also charges much less than this new version, at just $415.
Tesla will come with a J1772 to Tesla adapter with the J1772 wall connector so Tesla homeowners can use it too.
