Tesla chooses Texas as the site of the Cybertruck plant

July 22 (Reuters) – Tesla will build its next plant near Austin, Texas, Chief Executive Elon Musk said Wednesday.

The 2,000-acre site on the Colorado River is about thirteen minutes from downtown Austin, Musk said.

“It will be an ecological paradise … open to the public,” he said.

Musk said Tesla would be a finalist for the Tulsa, Oklahoma site for long-term production.

Musk and his team met earlier this month with any of the states, which were competing to get the $1.1 billion plant.

Musk said Wednesday that the plant would build Tesla’s new Cybertruck and its light heavy-heavy truck, such as model 3 and Model Y cars for eastern North America.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday in a statement, “Tesla is one of the most advanced and exciting corporations in the world, and we are proud to welcome his team to the state of Texas,” Gov. Abbott said. “Texas has the highest productivity in the country and we have built an economic environment that allows corporations like Tesla to innovate and succeed.”
