TEMECULA, CA — A man fatally wounded in a twist of fate on a motorcycle in Temecula on Tuesday has been known as a local resident.
Nicholas Almendarez, 43, died after crashing his motorcycle into a guardrail as he entered the northbound Interstate 15 ramp from Temecula Parkway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened after 10:15 a. m. on Tuesday, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig.
Lassig said the victim was driving his 1998 BMW R1200C in the HOV lane of the ramp, at approximately 45 mph, when he “applied the BMW brakes,” causing the motorcycle to skid to the side and “collide with the metal railing. “
No cars were involved.
Paramedics from the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department arrived on the scene minutes later and discovered the victim in serious condition. He was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died soon after.
Lassig said the fate twist is still under investigation and that anyone with information requests that they contact CHP’s Temecula workplace at 951-506-2000.
