Tata starts passenger vehicle production at its factory acquired from Ford India

As part of a major development by Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, the prominent Indian automobile giant, the company has officially started production of passenger cars at its plant in Sanand, Gujarat. which was previously owned by Ford India, is a testament to TPEM’s commitment to advancing the electric mobility landscape in India.

The inauguration of this plant was marked by the unveiling of the first car with the Tata logo manufactured in this world-class factory. The occasion was attended by TPEM’s Managing Director, Shailesh Chandra, as well as key executives from the Electric and Passenger Vehicle divisions.

Strategically located in the GIDC Sanand shopping center, the facility benefits from a strong supplier network, ensuring smooth operations. Tata Motors acquired the sprawling 460-acre site from Ford India on January 10, 2023. The facility is Tata Motors’ second plant in Gujarat. , committed to the production of internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) models.

The plant is made up of four main assemblies: stamping, frame construction, painting and final assembly. Each of those assemblies is supplied with complex automation and technology, ensuring precision manufacturing. The implementation of several world-class technologies in this facility sets a new benchmark within the automotive industry.
