Tampa boy killed in turn of fate next to alligator

WESTON, FL – A search team placed the body of a one-year-old Tampa boy Thursday along a stretch of Alligator Alley after the boy was ejected from his family’s Nissan Frontier van when he catapulted off the road with a burnt tire, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

“This vehicle veered to the right, entered the canal and drove several times,” Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Yanko Reyes told reporters in the accident along the east lanes of Interstate 75 near Landmark 27 in Broward County.

Three other children, the elderly of 4, 8 and 10 years old, were injured in the accident; however, two adult women, the elderly of 31 and 56, were seriously injured.The 33-year-old driving force suffered minor injuries.

“The circle of relatives started telling everyone that a child was missing,” Reyes said. “Some of the deputies entered this channel in search of this missing child.”

The turn of fate happened shortly before 4:30 p.m.None of the passengers in the van were wearing seat belts at the time, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

“We conducted a thorough search and were able to locate the dead body of the 1-year-old boy,” Reyes said.The child was pronounced dead at the site.
