The Ascent offers a spacious interior with flexible seating features and a long safety list, driving force assistance and onboard technologies. Available in 4 degrees of equipment: Base, Premium, Limited and Touring, the Ascent 2021 has an initial value of $32295, an increase of $300 over the past year, and can now be obtained at Subaru retailers.
To download a TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK 2020 award, cars will need to be rated as ”Good” in each of the IIHS’s six surprise resistance assessments: small overlap of the driver’s appearance at the front, small overlap of the front passenger’s appearance, moderate forehead tests, appearance, roof strength and headrest.
In addition, cars will also need to download “Good” or “Acceptable” headlight ratings and supply to have collision coverage in advance that provides “Advanced” or “Higher” ratings in vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian vehicle ratings. Ascent is a popular supplied with Subaru EyeSight® technology, which includes an emergency automatic braking system and is rated “Superior” for either rating. IIHS award-winning Subaru models are supplied with EyeSight.
The requirement to download a “Good” score for small-scale front passenger-side collision is a novelty in the 2020 IIHS awards. Small overlay tests are designed to reflect what happens when only the front corner of the vehicle collides with another vehicle or object such as a tree or power pole.
By 2020, IIHS has included pedestrian collision prevention ratings for the first time in its TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK awards. Subaru and other automakers have voluntarily committed to making automatic emergency braking popular on virtually all of their models until 2022. This voluntary commitment only requires systems that help prevent collisions with other vehicles, but with its EyeSight generation, Subaru is among those IIHS’s decide that this generation could help reduce the increasing pedestrian mortality, which has increased to 53% since its lowest point in 2009. More than 6,000 pedestrians died from injuries in 2018.
“Subaru supports IIHS’s efforts to push the industry to higher levels of vehicle protection and occupant protection,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc. “We consider IIHS awards as a validation of our efforts to continually innovative protection for our customers.”
