A 29-year-old man caught up in promoting Class A drugs has been described as “incredibly stupid” through a ruling by Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after narrowly avoiding jail.
Lovestruck Nathan Dean began using cocaine when he began dating a woman 12 years his senior. And from there, he ended up promoting drugs to fund their combined habit, reports the Stoke Sentinel.
He was caught up in police dealing with two men in a Skoda parked on Bycars Road in Burslem, and later pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply it. that he had walked away from the criminal by “the width of a hair on his head. “
Prosecutor Ian Ball said: “He searched and discovered two envelopes of cocaine in his trouser pocket. He also had a cell phone and £260 in cash. “
“He was arrested and taken to his home on Scotia Road. His home and VW Golf were searched.
“Two sets of scales and spare bags were seized in the house. Seven packages of cocaine were seized from the car.
The court heard that the nine recovered transactions were priced between £320 and £360. The cell phone tested and revealed messages indicating that she had provided drugs, adding some of her friends who were on her contact list as “My Lady. “
Dean was “exceptionally fair and frank” in his interview with police, when he admitted what he had done. He told police he would buy a quantity of cocaine each week and “double his money” through promotion.
Dean, of Scotia Road, Burslem, later pleaded guilty. The court heard he had no convictions other than a car case in 2014.
Jason Holt, mitigating, said: “At the time when this relationship, I rarely went out, just to play pool at the local pub. That’s where he met this person. “
“His charms seem to have surpassed him. He walked into appointments not knowing what he was getting into.
“When he found out, it was too late. He has accepted anything he would not do and it is very unlikely that he will be in court again. “
Holt said that since Dean’s arrest in August 2021, dating is over and Dean got back on track. He continued, “He now leads a law-abiding life.
“He has a new partner. He works full time and there is a reference from his employer that speaks volumes about him.
In front of Dean’s parents, Judge Hancox handed him a two-year criminal sentence, but said she was willing to suspend it for two years. You will have to meet a rehabilitation activity requirement of 30 days and 150 hours of unpaid work.
The judge on duty told him: “You are supported by your parents, who will have to be surprised that you are placed in those circumstances. Evidently, you are a wise user who has something in you.
“You’re also incredibly stupid for caring about this kind of activity. If you hadn’t met this individual, you and I would never have met and your parents would never have had to go through the misery of going to court with you today.
“You ran the width of a hair on your head to spend in custody today. “
