Stunning new truck facilities open at WA truck stop

The paintings took a few months to complete, but in the afternoon the doors opened to a stunning new lorry shower block at this popular West End stop.

Located just off the Great Northern Highway near Broome, Roebuck Plains Roadhouse is one of the main truck stops between Perth and Darwin.

Countless trucks pass there every day and there is enough space to park up to 20 road trains.

For more than 12 years, Roebuck Plains Roadhouse has been owned by brothers Leeland and Matthew Sharpe.

Leeland told Big Rigs that new truck installations were slow to arrive, which is a significant investment, and this is just the beginning of what’s to come.

“The upgrades were long overdue but with Covid and then the Fitzroy floods, it took us longer than we expected to complete them,” Leeland said.

“The new showers have just opened and there were other people there before we had the ability to remove the tape from the mirrors!

Leeland says the facility took about three months to build, costing about “a few hundred thousand dollars” and was designed for truckers.

The new block includes 4 showers, toilets, tea and coffee making facilities and even loose towels. “They are independent rooms with a lot of space. “They were built and well made,” Leeland added. “We need to take care of truckers. “

The Roebuck Plains Roadhouse was built in the mid-1980s and has undergone several renovations since then, with more planned. Leeland says that when he and Matthew took over the site, they were hoping to offer something special.

“We had noticed the poor condition of some truck stops and thought we’d like to review to improve, so we took a chance,” Leeland said.

He also revealed, “We’re about to do a major remodel that will make the truck prevent bigger and better. “

Although he didn’t reveal much, Leeland said, “We’re hopeful that painting will begin soon. ” »
