Step man arrested for I-10 crash murder that killed a truck’s driving force in 2015

Deputy officers from the El Paso County Sheriff arrested an El Paso guy on charges of murder in a traffic collision that killed the driving force of a truck on Interstate 10 five years ago.

Officers arrested Uriel Anchondo Thursday at a hotel in the 3600 block of Joe Battle Boulevard in the east, sheriff’s officers said Monday.

Anchondo, who over the years has been listed as one of El Paso’s most wanted fugitives, arrested after arrest warrants and the fugitives’ arrest segment received data on their location, authorities said.

Anchondo, now 31, faces charges of murder, fatal twisting of fate and injury.

On the night of January 3, 2015, Aries J.Kar, a tractor-trailer driving force, on I-10 eastbound near Eastlake Boulevard when the driving force of an overly high-speed Honda Civic lost control, hit a railing and bounced off the truck’s taxiway, sheriff’s officers said.

While looking to avoid hitting the car, the truck’s driving force lost and crashed. Kar died in a hospital. A passenger in the truck was also injured.

An online obituary shows that Kar, 31, buried in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Honda’s driving force fled the scene, but later known to the sheriff’s investigators as Anchondo,

Anchondo is being held in the center of the El Paso County Jail on a $700,000 bond. The case is expected to go to trial in March 2021, to court records.
