Stellantis 332,000 cars due to faulty seat belt sensor

Stellantis is recalling 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep cars because the sensors in the seatbelt connectors are working properly.  

The recall covers the following cars manufactured through Stellantis:

Stellantis said it had received 578 reports of a faulty sensor as of June 26, but was not aware of any injuries or injuries similar to the problem.  

“It is possible that a seat belt buckle transfer sensor is improperly attached, which would prevent the front seat airbag from deploying as intended,” Stellantis said in recall documents filed with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) Array.  

The faulty sensors were installed in the cars between September 2016 and June 2024. Stellantis said it would solve the sensor problem at no cost to homeowners by “wiring the sensor directly to the beam with a weld tube. “dealership for repairs, according to the company.  

Alfa Romeo, Fiat or Jeep owners who need a fix will be notified through Stellantis by mail around August 22. Owners who have already paid for sensor factor maintenance can receive a refund through Stellantis after presenting the original receipt for service, the company said. . .

The seat belt sensor is the latest in a series of recalls by Stellantis this year. Last month, the automaker recalled about 1. 2 million cars in the United States and Canada to fix a software issue that could disable rearview cameras. The recall affected Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram trucks and SUVs.   

In March, Stellantis also recalled thousands of Dodge Chargers and three hundred Chrysler cars due to a production defect that could cause airbags to rupture, sending shards of steel around the cabin. In February, the company recalled more than 338,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to a ball joint problem that could cause the driver to get lost or even crash.

Stellantis was created in 2021 when Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles officially merged with the French group PSA. Stellantis also produces Chrysler, Dodge and Ram Truck cars in the United States, as well as several foreign brands, in addition to Citroen, Opel and Peugeot.
