Stellantis 284,982 Dodge and Chrysler models due to possible airbag hazard

March 22 (UPI) — Stellantis is recalling 284,982 Chrysler and Dodge models with airbags that could rupture. The recalled cars are 2018-2021 Dodge Chargers and 2018-2021 Chrysler 300.

For the Chrysler Three Hundred, “Some 2018-2021 MY Chrysler Three Hundred cars would have possibly been made with a SABIC inflator that is prone to breaking. The total number of cars affected for this style is 67,180.  »

The real flaw is that an airbag inflator can simply rupture and cause compressed fuel to leak out of the inflator, propelling the curtains into the vehicle, which can cause injury.

The cause of the problem, according to the documents filed, is that the affected cars may have had moisture introduced into the manufacture of the inflator. This can also lead to corrosion over time, cracking the inflator.

The solution will be to install airbag inflation modules built outdoors on suspicious production dates.

The vehicle will be notified of the recall around May 3.

To date, there have been no injuries as a result of the defect.
