Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a hit-and-run that occurred in New Castle last night.
On February 15, 2023, at approximately 9:41 p. m. , a blue 2021 Mazda CX-5 was traveling south on South Dupont Highway at a green light at the intersection with 2d Avenue. At the same time, a gray 2020 Kaaki ZX-9R was traveling north on South Dupont Highway and arriving at the same intersection. The motorcycle passed a stopped car in a soft red light in the left turn lane and began turning left onto 2d Avenue in a soft red light. As a result, the front of the Mazda hit the right side of the Kaaki at the intersection. The motorcyclist shot out and the Mazda stopped on the shoulder. The driver of the Mazda then fled on foot and was last seen walking south on the South Dupont Freeway.
The motorcyclist, a 31-year-old from Wilmington, Delaware, was rushed to a domain hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The identity of the victim is pending notification to his circle of relatives and relatives. Mazda has not been known or located.
The road was closed for about 3 hours while the scene was tested and cleared.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident. The infantrymen ask everyone who witnessed this collision to contact Master Corporal J.
