Skoda recently announced plans to enter the sub-four million-person SUV business in India next year. While its launch won’t happen until early 2025, Skoda has already tested the SUV on our roads. Now, a new spy video appears. One of the SUV’s control mules appeared online, giving us a deeper look at its exterior and interior.

Although the SUV was covered in thick camouflage, it revealed a few key points of the exterior design. The sub-4m Skoda SUV will have a split headlight configuration with LED lighting fixtures that work during sunlight hours (which also serve as turn signals) located at the top of the fairing. Other notable details include a sleek gullwing grille and a larger air intake with a honeycomb pattern at the bottom of the bumper.

The Check Mule is equipped with metal wheels with black covers and wrap-around LED taillights. From the side, it may look like a smaller edition of the Skoda Kushaq, but it’s from the rear that it will look most like Skoda’s compact SUV. Under the skin, the new sub-4m SUV will be based on a scaled-down edition of the MQB-A0-IN platform that underpins the Kushaq.

The spy video also gives us a brief glimpse of the interior of the Skoda SUV, which is also covered in thick camouflage. That said, we can make a standalone touchscreen infotainment unit (it will probably come with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay).

We expect Skoda to also equip it with a virtual motive power display, a cruiseArray, a single-panel sunroof, and ventilated front seats. In terms of safety, the Skoda SUV under 4m can only receive up to six airbags and electronic stability (ESC). , a 360-degree camera, and a Tire Tension Tracking Formula (TPMS).

Skoda is expected to get the sub-4m SUV with the Kushaq’s smaller 1-litre turbo petrol engine (115hp/178Nm). It has a choice between 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

The sub-4 million Skoda SUV is expected to go on sale until March 2025, with a very likely starting price of Rs 8. 50 lakh (not including the showroom). It will compete with Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, as well as the sub-4m Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor crossovers.
