Solar-powered cars return to Homestead National Historical Park

BEATRICE – The Electrek American Solar Car Challenge returns to Nebraska, with a stop at Homestead National Historical Park on Wednesday, July 24.

The annual occasion fosters the creativity and ingenuity of college and school academics who design solar cars that compete in a cross-country race.

Homestead National Historical Park Ranger Amber Kirkendall says the park will be holding a checkpoint next Wednesday at the Heritage Center.   “We don’t know for sure how many. . . but at least thirty (cars)”

The third stage of the race will begin at the Pony Express Museum in St. Louis. John’s. Joseph, Missouri. . . at 9:00 a. m. m. of Wednesday. . . and Kirkendall says the solar cars will arrive at the assets between 11:15 a. m. m. y 15:45

“We will also have a car show with historic cars. Gale Hanshaw, our volunteer who has helped us for the past few years with a car show. . . It will bring other cars to show the evolution of the generation available for agriculture. , but also for life. . . and how we got to the point where we can have solar cars on the roads.

In the Heritage Center there will also be catering and activities for the youngest.

“This is a national occasion and a partnership with other national trails. . . so other ancient sites are also part of it. “

The Solar Challenge will take place at Kearney Archway from 9:15 a. m. to 5:15 p. m. m. to 2:30 p. m. m. July 25…next Thursday. The third leg of the race ends on Friday, July 26 at Scotts Bluff National Monument in Gering. . . between 8:30 a. m. and 5:30 p. m. m. and 5:00 p. m. m.  

The fourth level of the challenge will be on Saturday, July 27 from Scottsbluff. . . and will end at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper, Wyoming.

The first step of the challenge. . . the start of the race. . . It’s this Saturday, July 20th. . . at the Adventure Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
