PRAGUE, July 8 (Reuters) – Slovakia is a new investment by Volkswagen to expand production at the company’s plant in Bratislava after the German car manufacturer withdrew from a new site in Turkey, Prime Minister Igor Matovic said Wednesday.
Matovic told reporters at a televised conference that the government is in talks with Volkswagen and several teams while looking for investments and the creation of “thousands” of jobs.
A Turkish official said last week that Volkswagen had suspended plans to build a new plant in Turkey due to uncertainty about coronaviruses.
Matovic said Volkswagen plans to make an investment in other European plants, but a resolution has not yet been taken.
“We will do everything we can for this,” he said, without giving additional details.
Volkswagen, which has been provided in Slovakia since the early 1990s, simply cannot be contacted for comment. (Reporting through Jason Hovet. Edited through Jane Merriman)
