Skoda’s Enyaq SUV set two Guinness World Records by skidding on a circuit carved into a frozen lake in Sweden.
The Enyaq iV vRS won the record for “longest non-stop vehicle glide on ice” after gliding around the 1. 2-mile (1. 9 km) circle of ice for only about 16 minutes, which covered 4,568 miles (7,351 km).
This effort smoothly eclipsed the previous record of 3872 miles (6231 km) set in China in 2022, and being an EV meant that by setting the overall skidding record, the Enyaq also set the ice drift record for electric cars. In terms of speed, the drifts weren’t exactly in the Formula Drift class: the Enyaq hit 49 km/h (30 mph) in the record run, and at times drove at just 32 km/h (20 mph), so its twin-engine 295 hp powertrain (299 PS) wasn’t exactly overworked.

The vRS is the new style of functionality in Skoda’s Enyaq style line, but it is distinguished from a set of Däckprofssen studded tires. Skoda spent several days before setting the record by looking for other tyre combinations to find the most productive set-up. In the end, the team opted for 235/35 20 rubber at the front with six hundred 0. 2″ (5 mm) studs and 255/45 R20 rear bellows supplied with three hundred studs of only 0. 08 inches (2 mm).
The other secret weapon was the driver. Evo magazine journalist Richard Meaden is no stranger to flanking or setting records behind the wheel of a Skoda. Timing Association (SCTA) speed record for a 2. 0-liter turbocharged vehicle.
