Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV vRS review: Grass hot hatch gets more power. . . That she didn’t need

This is a new and advanced Skoda Enyaq Coupé vRS, returning to its original name. Nothing has been replaced on the outside, but the Czech automaker has tweaked under the hood of the ECU and has also made some adjustments to the device (new sunshades incorporated into the rear doors).

Anyway, no more power. However, this is what it offers, expanding from 295 hp to 325 hp. That’s enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in one second, which is now 5. 5 seconds.

Charging is also faster: maximum charging is now 175 kW instead of 135 kW and you can maintain top speeds for longer. Going from 10% battery to 80% now takes 28 minutes, 8 minutes less than before. more than 3 years to complete.

Efficiency has increased, as has range. Evidently, Skoda has been able to make ambitious software tweaks that use the powertrain (“a recalibration of the engines and the arrival of new power control software”) to free up more of your electron.

The Enyaq Coupe vRS will now go an additional 16 miles on a full tank of electric power (every 77 kWh) with an official WLTP score of 340 miles and 4. 0 mph. We’ve managed to reach a respectable 3. 7 mp/kWh today. and aging with the car, which is most commonly achieved through jingle in Eco mode, with occasional (and terrifying) forays into the more dynamic component of the driving mode options.

The touchscreen menus have been updated. When we spoke to Volkswagen and Skoda at the Munich Motor Show at the end of 2023, they had teams working to improve the features and make them easier to access. It’s still an annoying setup, but there’s less screaming now.

There’s one thing, and we appreciate that it’s a nano-issue, but when you turn up the volume of the speakers, the volume displayed completely freezes the touchscreen for several seconds. You can’t even press anywhere else to make it go away. I don’t want this nonsense on a busy M25.

The virtual cockpit and head-up presentations have also been improved, apparently, with crisp new graphics. We didn’t notice much difference, other than that the data was perhaps presented more clearly. Still, it would be great to be able to customize the dashboard demo a bit more or use other tactics to demonstrate the data. Other car brands do this specific feature better.

The few times we’ve driven the Enyaq vRS so far, we’ve been disappointed with the experience, aside from the thrust of the accelerator pedal. Passengers may not enjoy a full takeoff, but, to be honest, the vRS proves convenient on the road to keep up with heavy traffic.

If you want an electric ball that can’t take corners, it’s best to look for the MG4 Xpower. Of course, its battery is smaller and its range is shorter, but it reaches 0-100 km/h in 3. 8 quite plausible. second thanks to two engines with 429 hp. Oh, and it’s £18,000 less than the £54,820 sticker attached to the vRS. Phew. Et, that’s before you mention the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Mustang Mach-E (which drives good) or the crazy Kia EV6 GT.

No, we still don’t know what the Enyaq Coupe vRS is for. It’s not taken care of well enough that you need to run on battery, so you’re going to take the simple things to save some range. It looks fishy with that shiny plastic grille, amazing frame kit, and sinister optional paint colors. . . none of which are very Skoda.

The Enyaq is a very smart car. Don’t be tempted to mess it up with an extra vRS.
