Shots have been fired after burglars broke into President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s home in the lush Harare suburb of Hellensville.
The incident occurred on July 6, according to ZimLive.
This is the third home invasion targeting the Mnangagwa family in about two weeks. The incidents occurred at the homes of his son and Deputy Minister of Finance, David Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, and his nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa, who is Deputy Minister of Tourism.
The raid on President Mnangagwa’s house
Officers spotted three male trespassers fleeing Hellensville assets on Wheeleon Road, which includes a sprawling two-story mansion still under construction. Police fired precautionary shots, allowing the robbers to escape.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight and the gang was targeting structural devices stored at the site.
After the robbery, police recovered an armored cable and a copper pipe abandoned in the yard. Chinese company Zim Nantong Construction is building the house, which is unfinished after more than five years of work. The property, located on an area of 25,000 square meters of prime urban land, includes 8 cluster houses in the construction stages.

This new home invasion follows a series of similar incidents that affected the Mnangagwa family. On Tuesday, police reported an apparent burglary at the home of the vice minister of tourism, Tongai Mnangagwa, the president’s nephew. The robbery took place between July 5 and 8 at the Zimbabwe Tourist Board, located on the sixth floor, on the corner of Samora Machel and Julius Nyerere. The intruder entered through the roof.
The ZRP is also investigating two incidents at the Borrowdale home of Deputy Finance Minister David Mnangagwa on June 23 and 25. In the first incident, police discovered damaged iPads in a backpack abandoned on the roof, with torn papers scattered all over the place. The intruder also cut the headrest of his Range Rover parked in the garage and stole the Deputy Minister’s Beretta pistol and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Just two days later, police were called to the house after Kuda Mnangagwa and his family found three bullets in his bedroom door and two more bullets on the lawn. On June 28, a fire broke out on the property and took hours to put out.
At the height of ZANU PF factional fighting in 2014, unknown assailants stormed President Mnangagwa’s government and offices on six occasions.
