Staff Sgt. Butler told Castanet that Kamloops police and firefighters responded to a home in the 800 block of Valhalla Drive around 1 a. m. Saturday, where a garage went through the fire.
A fireplace broke out in front of the home, Butler said, adding that the matter is still under investigation.
Police investigators scouring the community may have been caught filming the citizens of the space when Castanet arrived at the scene before 1:30 p. m. m. La police said they received CCTV footage from the area.
The chimney appears to have burned the back of a jeep parked in the garage, as well as the look of the house.
KFR platoon captain Sheldon Guertin said a bystander was putting out the chimney when firefighters arrived, in which case no flames were seen. He said some fabrics outside the house, in the parking lot, had been burned and police arrived at one point. after KFR and took over the premises.
Butler said police stopped a vehicle and spoke to a suspect, but they didn’t have enough evidence to link him to the incident and they were released.
He said police believed the fire was a target and not a random incident.
Two days earlier, police responded to an apartment in the 200 block of Spruce Avenue in North Kamloops, where someone had thrown a Molotov cocktail onto the apartment’s terrace around 4 a. m.
Butler said there is no indication the two incidents were related.
The space where Saturday’s Molotov cocktail was thrown is at 110-800 Valhalla Dr. , which is the space where Chaneill Satow, 39, shot and killed last May.
Butler said there is no link between this incident and the homicide.
Emergency crews arrived at 110-800 Valhalla Dr. around 6:30 p. m. May 21, according to locals.
Police said at the time that Satow shot and killed on the property and died in hospital five days later.
The homicide investigation is ongoing.
