Schneider, a specialist in freight logistics, celebrates a milestone in the advertising electric vehicle sector by announcing that its fleet of electric trucks from Daimler’s Freightliner brand has exceeded one million kilometers traveled in total, all of them without carbon emissions. We love to see it.
Schneider National Inc. ($SNDR) and its distinctive bright orange trucks not only haul cargo, but they also have more than 85 years of transportation that are helping to generate more than $6. 6 billion in profits annually.
In the advertising segment, Schneider has been one of the first to adopt sustainable freight transportation alternatives, adding electric trucks, the eCascadia from Freightliner, owned by Daimler Trucks.
Schneider worked together with Daimler Trucks North America to test the first eCascadia trucks between 2019 and 2020, which have since been expanded to an existing fleet of approximately one hundred vehicles. For this growing number of orange electric trucks on the roads, Schneider opened a large charging hub this summer at its California hub, east of downtown Los Angeles.
The site is capable of temporarily charging up to 32 electric trucks at a time and has been one of the catalysts for Schneider’s electric cars to hit the roads faster, contributing to the most recent milestone achieved through the business.
Since it began transporting its customers’ electric cargo trucks last January, Schneider says its fleet has grown to 92 Daimler eCascadia BEVs and two all-electric site observers. During that time, the company was able to safely ship its customers’ cargo over a million miles, avoiding approximately 3. 3 million pounds of carbon emissions.
Schneider says the carbon savings from electric trucks is equivalent to more than 330 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles off the road for an entire year. Among the first consumers to help reach this mileage milestone were Goodyear and Frito-Lay North America. In fact, David Allen, vice president and chief sustainability officer of PepsiCo Foods North America, spoke about his current relationship with Schneider and his electrification strategy:
Frito-Lay’s progress in eliminating Scope 3 emissions was highlighted this year through our first shipment of third-party electric vehicles with Schneider. As the first to outsource transportation to Schneider’s eCascadia fleet, our collaboration serves as a model for how Frito-Lay and PepsiCo collaborate with our transportation partners to build a sustainable food formula and achieve our goal of PepsiCo’s net-zero positive emissions by 2040.
To celebrate this sustainability milestone, Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke will ring the final bell on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) tomorrow, November 21. Looking ahead, Schneider says it will continue to make progress toward its 7. 5-mile emissions reduction goal. . % until 2025 and 60% until 2035. According to its publication, it is already more than halfway to its 2025 goal.
