SCCC receives donations for welding and programs

NEWTON — Sussex County Community College praised area businesses and the local community for donations that will allow students to receive valuable experience in programs at its McGuire Technical Education Center.

The SCCC won a vehicle from the Franklin Sussex Auto Mall and one from McGuire Chevrolet as a budget from an adjunct professor at the university.

McGuire Chevrolet owned the main street assets in Newton, which are now the school’s technical programs.

The Franklin Sussex Auto Mall donated nine sets of engines and components, while Subaru donated seven sets of engines and 3 streaming games.

Jason Fruge, CSCC Business Program Supervisor, said donations will gain mainly advantages in welding and automotive generation programs, which began at the McGuire Technical Training Center in the fall of 2018.

“Vehicles, engines and transmissions will allow us to expand our portions of hands-on education while adding stock,” Fruge said. “This will create an environment of individual paintings when we start education after COVID-19 so that we can practice safely.”

Airgas has donated approximately 1,000 pounds of medium-quality metal plates to the university, which will exercise academics in a variety of welding methods. Program instructors will use cars to simulate real-world scenarios for academics.

The CCCS has expanded its technical education systems since it began leasing McGuire’s assets two years ago. The school purchased the site in December and President Jon Connolly expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity in advancing opportunities at the school.

“We are grateful for all the help that local businesses have provided to our generation and career systems in Sussex,” Connolly said. “With this help, we can continue to expand our certification and certification systems and provide the most productive education imaginable for our students.”
