SAN DIEGO COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CHAIR REBECCA TAYLOR KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH

July 17, 2024 (San Diego) – Rebecca “Becca” Taylor, chairwoman of the San Diego County Democratic Party, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Utah.   She was returning home from a when she was hit from behind her.

Interim President Kyle Krahel-Frolander released a document that read, in part: “Becca has had an incalculable effect on many others and has moved San Diego forward to a brighter future. She was more than just a leader, she was a public official. Becca was a Navy veteran, sexual assault advocate, OB city council member, and volunteer seeking resources for asylum seekers. She embodied the most productive part of us.

The county’s Democratic Party announced her death today on its social media and social media “with the greatest regret and deep sadness,” adding that her parents and most of her siblings were with her in the hospital.  

Born in 1983 in Plano, Texas, Taylor graduated from San Diego State University in 2011. She worked as an aviation electrician in the Navy, where she also volunteered as an advocate for victims of sexual assault. She founded and was the first chair of the California Young Democrats Veterans Caucus in 2014. She also worked with Serving Seniors, served on the Ocean Beach City Council Board of Directors, and as Secretary of the Metro West Area Caucus. In addition, she has served as a volunteer leader for the San Diego Rapid Response Network, which helps asylum seekers.

Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-San Diego) posted in X: “I am heartbroken by the passing of Becca Taylor. “Becca committed her life to serving others, from the Navy to defending survivors of sexual assault to caring more about our democracy. She is kind, funny, vivacious, and endlessly altruistic.   I will miss her.

Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, a former local party chairman, called Taylor “a brilliant mind, a passionate advocate for the party, a servant of his community,” as well as “a friend and confidant” in a Facebook post, adding that he is heartbroken by this loss.

Congressman Scott Peters (D-San Diego) recalls that Peters encouraged her crusade attendees when she worked as an organizer for their 2014 crusade. “Since then, we have remained unbreakable friends and supportive of each other. each other,” he said, the San Deigo Times reports.   “His infectious laugh, his dazzling smile and his brilliance were present. . . Today we mourn a wonderful person. This is a brutal loss for all of us.

 

I guess he wasn’t the CYD user I knew; She’s fine. Oh my God, I almost freaked out. It’s sad.

Lord, we lift up the County Democratic Party Chairwoman, Rebecca, to you and her family, please come out of her funk and depression. We lift them up to you at this time, dear Lord.
