The Renault-Nissan Alliance has been very busy in the following year. Since the Franco-Japanese alliance bought Mitsubishi Motors in 2016, all 3 brands have been running in the full merger of the Japanese SUV manufacturer in the fold, while they have also presented a 6-year plan, what we now call Alliance 2022. With the announcement of the 6-year plan, the 3 brands also renamed the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance through the launch of a logo to represent recent changes. Returning to Alliance 2022, the ambitious plan comes with cooperation strategies between the 3 automakers through shared platforms that will come with electric cars (EVs), non-unusual inflight information and entertainment systems, autonomous driving technology, among others.
As a component of the 2022 Alliance, the Franco-Japanese conglomerate will have 4 non-unusual platforms that will be shared among nine million cars in all 3 brands by 2022. These 4 platforms will be built on the CMF (Common Module Family) architecture and will come with a new non-unusual EV platform with a new non-unusual B-segment platform for midsize cars. In components, Mitsubishi Motors will have access to the CMF architecture and will use Renault and Nissan engines until 2020.
Overview of the 2022 alliance for sharing platforms and electric vehicles
As per the Alliance 2022 plan, the three companies will launch 40 vehicles with different levels of autonomous drive technology in the next six years.
The 3 brands will introduce the right autonomous driving generation for road use until 2018, while city driving functions will be added until 2020. However, any version will require uninterrupted tracking of a human driver. By 2020, the 3 brands will launch cars with a highly autonomous driving generation for the road, which will require occasional monitoring of the human driver.
By 2022, the 3 brands will launch their first fully autonomous driving vehicle without the intervention of human driving force.
Meanwhile, until 2018, cars of the 3 brands deserve to have an unusual in-flight infotainment formula with connectivity options.
At first glance, India will gain advantages from the 2022 Alliance. Thanks to the 6-year plan, we will soon have medium cars founded on the CMF-B platform in the country. For reference, the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO are based on the CMF-A platform, while the fifth generation Micron (yet to be announced for India) is based on the new CMF-B platform.
It is also imaginable that Mitsubishi will expand its diversity in India in the short term once the Japanese automaker has access to the CMF architecture and power trains recently shared through Renault and Nissan until 2020. With the CMF-A platform already located, we can expect the alliance to also locate the CMF-B and CMF-C/D platforms in the country. Once this is done, the production charge of cars founded on those platforms will be significantly minimized, allowing the 3 brands to set competitive charges for their products, especially Mitsubishi.
We ruled out the advent of its diversity of natural electric cars in our market, especially since the government has categorically stated that India will transfer to all electricity until 2030 and has led auto brands to invest in the generation of electric vehicles and launch new products. in the country. Nissan is about to review the new Leaf EV in India very well in the coming months, a very likely indicator that the conglomerate is making plans for an EV offensive here faster than expected.
