The all-electric Range Rover is almost here. While the logo admits it has been a challenge, Range Rover’s first electric vehicle will be a “true Range Rover” with unrivaled capability and luxury, with bookings exceeding 42,000 units.
Range Rover gave us a glimpse of the electric SUV in April after revealing the first photos of its bloodless weather testing.
The darkened prototype is certainly a Range Rover, with its timeless design updated for the fashion age. In February, JLR claimed that the Range Rover EV was “attracting a lot of interest” as the waiting list exceeded 16,000.
At its investor day in June, the company said bookings more than doubled, reaching more than 38,000. It is also attracting growing interest on social media, with more than 186 million views.
Two months later, we are informed that interest in the Range Rover’s electric vehicle continues to grow. Reservations already exceed 42,000 and none of them have yet known the complete model.
Speaking to MotorTrend, JLR COO Lennard Hoonik is confident that the first electric Range Rover will be true to its roots. “The electric Range Rover has to be a Range Rover first,” Hoonik explained.
JLR’s chief operating officer added that the electric vehicle will have the “driving feels” that make the Range Rover what it is. “Even if you have your eyes closed, it doesn’t matter if it’s a V-8, an EV or an I-6. It will have to be a real Range Rover.
Although he claims it is not easy, the electric SUV will have to have the same functions as existing vehicles.
Range Rover claims its internal propulsion formula allows the logo to “exceed its already recognized functionality on low-grip surfaces, ensuring all-terrain, all-weather and all-terrain capabilities. “
The Range Rover EV also includes a new traction system, a first for the brand. Range Rover is testing the model in extreme conditions ahead of its debut later this year.
