Ram 1500 2020: luxury pickup truck with a comfortable hybrid boost

Earlier this summer, I made the decision that, in order to live my life of more productive quarantine, I had to buy a car. And since I’ve been looking for a small convertible since I moved to Los Angeles in 2017, I opted for the apparent choice: a Mazda Miata, mine is an edition of the tenth anniversary of 1999. It’s less than 27,000 miles, it’s in very good condition. and none of the previous owners have made stupid changes. I like that.

What does this have to do with the Ram 1500 2020? Well, I discovered the Miata on Craigslist in Phoenix, and since it wasn’t recorded or abandoned, I think the easiest way to bring him back to Los Angeles was in a trailer. Almost any full-size pickup truck would have made this trailer over long distances without sweating, but none would have been as beautiful as the Ram.

Towing is not the most complicated part. Even the lowest Ram 1500 2020 can drag 6390 pounds and the truck’s maximum towing capacity is 12750 pounds. The combination of my Miata and a soft car trailer weighed just over 3000 pounds, anything our Honda Passport would eventually have handled, if I had used a tow hook, so for the Ram, it’s a piece of cake. The Ram 1500 Laramie 2020 4×4 multi-seat cabin shown here with the 5.7-liter V8 eTorque and optional 3.92 rear axle is designed to tow 11,190 pounds. In other words, if I had sought to take 3 more Miatas on the way back to Los Angeles, this would not have been a challenge (theoretically).

This gentle charge didn’t even scare the Ram. The comfortable Hemi V8 hybrid develops 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, with a 48-volt starter generator that provides 16 additional horsepower and 130 pound-feet of initial acceleration assistance. Even on uphill exits, the Ram moved away from traffic to smooth devices gently and confidently, and on a quick detour to Prescott Valley, Arizona, about 5,000 feet above the sea point, the added strength of the comfortable hybrid helped compensate for the loss of the atmosphere. V8. high-altitude punch.

Initially, I was a little disappointed that my control van didn’t have the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 engine ram, just because I like towing with turbodiesper torque. But the Hemi eTorque grew up on me. On the road, I never ran out of strength to make my way through slow semitrailers, not that I’ve done any competitive acceleration with the valuable shipping on the go. I am also pleased to report that, despite the altitude adjustments and my notoriously heavy right foot, my observed fuel consumption was certainly not horrible. The EPA rates the Ram supplied with an eTorque V8 at 17 miles consistent with city gallons and 23 mph on the road, and I have observed 17 mph/gal. This might not sound impressive, however, I had a 3000 pound penalty attached to the tow hitch at all times, and that the road included a lot of climbs.

I used the truck’s towing/transport mode a couple of times in the mountains, basically to prevent the eight-speed automatic transmission from getting up too early, but largely I left it on flat roads, as the Miata and trailer counted. for only a quarter. Ram’s total towing capacity. The most useful towing aid was blind spot monitoring, which automatically measured the trailer life and adjusted the sensors accordingly, so I never ran the threat of cutting someone when I had to replace lanes.

None of the truck’s towing exploits are unique to the Ram 1500. And, in fact, some competitors offer more generation which makes transportation even easier. The Ford F-150 comes with Pro Trailer Back-Up Assist, where you can steer the van with a dial, turning it precisely when you need to pass the trailer with the electronics sorting the rest. GMC will offer up to 15 cameras that can even give you X-ray vision through a trailer, which is indeed amazing.

But that doesn’t mean the Ram doesn’t have some tricks up his sleeve. I love the RamBox bed lockers, which were the best way to keep the tow straps when I unloaded the Miata for a short walk through the Prescott Valley, and can be locked, so I can leave things out at night without worrying.

The other wonderful ram 1500 handle asset is an optional air load leveling suspension that makes driving less difficult when you have a heavy trailer that jams the truck. But that’s all I can say about this option, because my truck didn’t include it.

The reason why I’m glad I chose the Ram has nothing to do with its towing capacity. Instead, it’s how amazing this van was as a long-distance cruiser: a quiet, comfortable, spacious, tech-rich barge that ate heaps and heaps of miles with ease. Even without the aforementioned air suspension, the Ram was perfectly stylish along Interstate 10 between Los Angeles and Phoenix, it would have been better on smaller wheels with thicker-sided tires, not the 22-inch monsters that made it up. Truck’s Night Edition Appearance Pack.

Half-ton vans compete with full-size luxury sedans for the amount of amenities, convenience and multimedia features they offer, and this is where the Ram 1500 excels in the category. The heated, cooled and leather-trimmed seats in my truck were as comfortable and comfortable as the La-Z-Boy chairs. And I never got in the back, a passenger came back to use the Wi-Fi hotspot aboard the Ram and took a call from the convention with plenty of area to spread. There is plenty of legroom and the panoramic sunroof allows it to flow smoothly through the cab. With a lot of compartments in the garage, a wireless phone fee and USB plugs more than enough, I can take all my electronic devices smoothly and keep them classified.

I’d be negligent if you didn’t mention the Ram’s stellar integrated infotainment technology: Fiat-Chrysler’s Uconnect 4C software, shown on the 12-inch vertical display of the 1500. I enjoyed how I can keep the card in the most sensible part and the audio controls at the bottom, or run Apple CarPlay smoothly without supporting the entire screen. In fact, I discovered that my check truck screen was unusually slow when I responded to the tickets, and infrequently required 3 or 4 pressures before an order was actually taken. But I will do it as an express anomaly of this pickup, because I have never experienced this kind of bad habit of other Fiat Chrysler products.

In addition to the excellence of infotainment, a number of driving force assistance functions have made it easier. I talked about tracking blind spots for the duration of the trailer, but it was wonderful to have adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, assistance to keep the lane and a 360-degree camera, which made parking this thing very easy.

Many trendy vans also have those features, but overall, the Ram is my favorite half-ton. It has more road driving than any of its competitors, the interior is more comfortable, the fabrics are larger and the generation is notch more responsive. The 2021 Ford F-150 will give the Ram a genuine career for their money when it launches, but for now at least the Ram 1500 is the queen.

However, this crown will charge you. The Ram 1500 2020 starts at the low diversity of $30,000, however, the Laramie Crew Cab 4×4 costs $48435, adding $1695 to the destination. With all the power assistance add-ons, the Night Edition appearance set, the 12-inch Uconnect display, the eTorque engine and more, the value when leaving this truck is $68,815. But it’s not as if all of Ram’s domestic competition is less expensive when it’s loaded. And since the Ram 1500 is much more luxurious, tech-rich and, it’s definitely worth it.
