POULSBO – After more than 20 years of wear and tear, Raab’s skate park has been dismantled. But Poulsbo’s skating network is collaborating with the city to create a new, state-of-the-art skate park in its place.
Raab Park has been home to a beloved skate park since January 3, 2000, when a facility built entirely through the efforts of the North Kitsap Skate Network opened. But his age shows. There were holes in the upper deck and the volatile and dangerous railing. The more commonly forested area of the park and the prolonged rains of the Pacific Northwest had taken their toll.
“I’ve been through periods (of time) where there were holes in the ramps,” said Travis Ryan, who has been the skate park since it opened.
The Poulsbo Skate Park Community Coalition is now leading the effort to build a new skate park that serves the community.
“We plan to rebuild this summer on a transitional basis as we move toward our long-term goal. . . a concrete-covered park closer to downtown,” said Eric Payne, a member of the Poulsbo Skate Park Community Coalition.
Lately, the coalition is making plans to rebuild the Raab Skate Park with new fabrics and more features. This park will be safer and more inclusive for skaters of other skill levels and will serve the network as the skatepark coalition works to create a more permanent skatepark. park. They worked in combination with Poulsbo Parks and Recreation to bring their concepts to life.
“If there are netpaintings members who would like to see something and are willing to help make it happen, then yes, we need to work 100 percent with you and see what we can do,” said Jeff Ozimek, director of parks and recreation.
According to Ozimek, the Poulsbo Skate Park Community Coalition came to town just over a year ago with concepts and goals, and the two organizations have been involved ever since. The skate park coalition has been incredibly proactive in its efforts to collaborate with Poulsbo. Parks and Recreation, Ozimek said.
“We are excited about this project,” Ozimek said. Our network lately wants a position that is inclusive and available to all ages and talents to be able to skate, come in combination and build a network. . . »

Poulsbo Parks and Recreation has been working to help set a timeline for the rebuilding of the Raab Skate Park, while also helping to unite the Skate Park Coalition with other people and organizations that could help.
They have raised about $10,000 of their $30,000 purpose, which will usually be used to procure the fabrics, as they plan to use the hard work of volunteers to build it. The Poulsbo Skate Park Community Coalition will have a booth at May’s Viking Fest where we hope to continue contributing to their purpose.
Anyone interested in contributing to the creation of the new Raab Skate Park is encouraged to join. A variety of volunteers are needed, from grant writers to structure staff to sponsors. Community members can reach out to the Poulsbo Skate Park Community Coalition on Facebook or through Poulsbo Parks and Recreation.
