PRUENDALE, Calif. – A local food truck had to shut down its operations in Prunedale due to a dispute Thursday afternoon.
Tacos El Jerry has been operating for a decade at various locations on the Central Coast.
However, 3 weeks ago, they were told that their Taco Truck in Prunedale was at their doorsteps.
Ana Jimenez, owner of Tacos El Jerry, was speechless at the decision.
“We were quite surprised,” Jimenez said. How is it conceivable that someone would come and tell us that we can’t operate anymore?”
Jimenez said he was told by the White Fire dispensary that the food truck had to stop operating in the dispensary’s parking lot after being notified through a Monterey County employee.
A county spokesperson showed KION that a worker told the dispensary owner that the store needed a permit stating that a food truck could only operate in its parking lot.
Nick Pasculli, Monterey County’s communications director, said there has been no direct contact with the food truck and no formal case has been opened.
Pasculli told KION that the food truck can return as long as the dispensary obtains the mandatory permits in accordance with the county’s network and housing progression codes.
Jimenez said he would review the codes they want to comply with to serve Prunedale customers.
“They’re very special to us,” Jimenez said. Right now, we’re with them and we’re very proud to serve this community. “
County officials said the Office of Housing and Community Development and the Office of Environmental Health are providing assistance to the food truck owner so it can operate in Prunedale.
KION is committed to providing a forum for a civil and constructive conversation.
