Prosecutor: stab wounds in self-defense of motorcycle gang combat

LAFAYETTE, Ind.

” (L) Colton Mitchell’s movements constituted a proper exercise of his right to self-defense and the defense of others; and therefore their movements were legally justified under the law,” Harrington said on a Wednesday. “The Tippecanoe County District Attorney’s Office will not record the criminals’ fees in this case contrary to Colton Mitchell.”

Mitchell and two other men were outdoors at the Big League Sports Bar, 140 Frontage Road in Lafayette, when the match began around 10:20 p.m. August 15, according to police.

Mitchell stabbed Lusson after Lusson hit Mitchell in the head with a piece of steel in a match between members of the Hells Angels and the Mongols.

Lusson died in the parking lot, which is near the intersection of Indiana 26 and Interstate 65.

Two other people were injured in the fight, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

A Hells Angel, Jason Hathaway, 43, from the city of Michigan, charged with assault with a deadly weapon and criminal gang activity. On Wednesday he remained in prison instead of bail.

Another Hells Angel member arrested on August 16, but released last week after his rate was dismissed.

Because members of the biker gangs began arriving in giant numbers after Lusson’s murder, Lafayette police had all the city patrol officers on this site, and the SWAT team also called.
