The 100% electric Porsche Cayenne is on the way. Porsche has shown that the next generation of the Cayenne will be electric. Meanwhile, Porsche plans to keep the hybrid and gasoline models for a little longer. Porsche gave us a preview of the first electric Cayenne prototypes hitting the road for testing. . Find out below.
The fourth-generation Cayenne will be fully electric, Porsche announced on Thursday. Porsche said testing is well underway after appearing in the first camouflaged prototypes.
“The Cayenne has explained the sports car in its segment,” boasted Porsche CEO Oliver Blume. Blume added: “By the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set the tone in the electric SUV segment. “
Porsche has already brought to the existing Cayenne “one of the biggest product improvements” in the brand’s history. But the fourth-generation style “will evolve further with primary technology investments. “
The electric Cayenne is expected to play a role in Porsche’s transition to electric vehicles. Porsche’s new electric SUV will be based on the PPE 800V platform.
Porsche said the platform integrates the newest technologies, such as a complex high-voltage system, powertrain and chassis.
“We will use electrification to take the Cayenne to a whole new level in several ways,” explained Michael Steiner, member of the board of directors for R&D at Porsche AG.
In addition to its signature driving characteristics, Porsche is aiming for fast and strong charging, power and drivability in the new Cayenne EV.
The first prototypes of the Cayenne Electric have left the Porsche factory and are being edited. Porsche says: “The real world has begun. At launch, the Cayenne EV will have “traveled several million kilometers around the world,” adding excessive climates.
Porsche says extensive testing is underway to ensure the new EV meets the brand’s highest quality standards.
Last month we saw the electric Cayenne pulling a trailer through the mountains. Design elements, such as active cooling air vents, are visible in the new 911 Carrera GTS, Porsche’s first road-legal 911 hybrid.
The electric Porsche Cayenne is expected to make its official debut in 2026. Before that, Porsche plans to release an electric 718 styling (which has also been in testing).
Porsche will begin deliveries of the Macan EV later this year. The electric Macan starts at $78,800, while the Turbo edition costs $105,300.
The news comes after Porsche this week abandoned its target of selling 80% electric vehicles by 2030. Porsche said the target would possibly be too ambitious and that the transition could also take longer than expected.
Porsche said it could still reach its goal if the market allowed. Blume reiterated his position on Thursday, saying: “Our product strategy could allow us to deliver more than 80% of our new cars fully electrified by 2030,” but this will depend on demand and the advancement of electric vehicles globally.
Thus, Porsche has announced that it will offer the Cayenne in three powertrains “until 2030 and beyond”, adding electric, hybrid and gasoline versions.
