Porsche showroom and front of the Four Seasons hotel via Beirut explosion

Buildings and storefronts in downtown Beirut were seriously injured after a major explosion on 4 August, and Beirut’s government, Marwan Abboud, told the AFP that more than one part of the city had been injured by the explosion. Oliver Zeitoun, a local resident, said he was in a Porsche showroom just over a kilometre from the blast site when the explosion occurred. He captured this footage from the car showroom window, with damaged glass appearing, as well as cars and other dust-covered people on the street. The damaged front of the nearest Four Seasons hotel is also visible. Towards the end of the clip, the camera captures a column of smoke that emerges from the port area. Zeitoun told Storyful that he had “been lucky enough to be in the corner of the inner showroom.” He also published a series of images that he said showed the damage to his home on the 26th floor of the Beirut tower. Lebanese Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi told local media that the explosion gave the impression of having been caused by the explosion of more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a port warehouse. Lebanon’s fitness minister said some 135 were killed, 5,000 injured and dozens were still missing Wednesday afternoon, The Star Lebanon newspaper reported. Credit: Oliver Zeitoun through Storyful
