Porsche adds new variants of RWD and 4S off-road packages to its electric Macan line-up [Videos]

While production of the all-electric Macan is already underway in Germany, Porsche is launching two new variants to appeal to a wider visitor base. The automaker will offer a lighter RWD variant and a new dual-motor 4S edition with an optional off-road design package. .

The Macan is a compact luxury SUV that has been a staple of the Porsche range for the past decade, located in the larger Cayenne. During this period, Porsche introduced several variants, adding the Macan Turbo, but no electric version.

As Porsche shifts to an all-electric range, the Macan makes its debut as a BEV. We’ve been awaiting its arrival for years, reporting on its progress as the German automaker developed it.

These advances became a reality last January when Porsche finally unveiled the all-electric Macan, which is based on the Volkswagen Group’s 800V Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. With 381 miles of range according to the EPA, the Macan EV garnered more than 10,000 orders shortly after going on sale.

Porsche has recently marketed two fully electric variants of the compact SUV: the Macan four and the Macan Turbo. Production began in Leipzig, Germany, in May, and continued with deliveries to the EU.

Now, two months later, Porsche has announced two more variants of the electric Macan: a RWD edition and a mid-size 4S edition.

Today, Porsche shared key takeaways from the RWD Macan and 4S, bolstering a new all-electric lineup with entry-level and mid-range options. The new RWD variant is the lightest of the pack (243 pounds lighter than the Macan 4), powered by a one-hundred kW battery and the same rear motor as the Macan 4, delivering 250 kW (335 hp). This is an “overboost” power.

Maximum torque is 415 lb-ft and the base model can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5. 4 seconds. It has a top speed of 136 mph. Both new variants can charge speeds of up to 270 kW, enabling DC charging from 10 to 80% in approximately 21 minutes. Watch the video of the Porsche of the Macan RWD in action below.

The new fourS also joins the all-electric Porsche Macan range. This higher-performance all-wheel drive variant debuts between the four and the Macan Turbo and features a new rear axle motor and a robust 600-amp SiC pulse inverter. The engine remains the same as that of the two original variants of the Macan and combines to offer a formula power of 330 kW (four four horsepower) with an “overboost” of up to 380 kW (509 horsepower).

In “Launch Control,” the Macan fourS can deliver a maximum of 578 lb-ft of torque and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3. 9 seconds. Its top speed on the track is 149 mph.   By comparison, the most sensitive speeds of the Macan Four and the Macan Turbo are 136 and 161 mph, respectively.

Other features include the adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping.

In addition, Porsche has incorporated a new off-road design package that will be available on all versions of the electric Macan. This package includes a front bumper that increases the technical angle of the compact SUV up to 17. 5 degrees and increases ground clearance in overall trim from 10 mm to 7. 6 inches (195 mm), achieving 8. 8 inches (225 mm) at its maximum.

The two new all-electric variants of the Macan go on sale from today and deliveries in the United States are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. Here’s how the Macan costs break down now that there are 4 features available:

Finally, here’s a video shared today via Porsche showing off the features of the new electric Macan 4S.
