Peugeot e-2008 SUV package 2023 for Australia

The 2023 Peugeot e-2008 electric SUV has been approved for sale in Australia, almost 4 years after the vehicle was unveiled in Europe.

Approved for sale in Australian government certification documents, the e-2008 is the electric edition of Peugeot’s smallest SUV, with 333 km of declared range.

The e-2008 is expected to be Peugeot’s electric vehicle of the moment in Australia, after the e-Partner Drive urban van is the first to be revealed with the green light to go on sale locally in December 2022, and was unveiled today through the French brand.

A spokesman for Peugeot Australia told Drive: “We look forward to sharing more data on our electrification adventure in Australia soon with the latest tests underway for e-2008. Stay tuned for more data soon. “

Australian costs don’t have to be shown before launch, however, in the UK, an e-2008 costs 26% more than an equivalent petrol model.

The 2008 Peugeot GT Sport starts at $51,188 plus Australian route fare, which would translate to around $65,000 plus route fares for a full-featured e-2008 flagship.

It remains to be seen whether Peugeot Australia chooses to introduce a less expensive edition worth close to $60,000; however, government documents show that all 2008 e-2008s in Australia are expected to run on 18-inch wheels (optional in Europe), with the option of a sunroof.

The power source of the e-2008 in Europe is a hundred-kW electric motor that drives the front wheels and a 50 kWh battery, ready for a claimed 333 km course in European WLTP control protocols with 18-inch wheels.

Opting for 17-inch alloy wheels in Europe would likely increase diversity to 345km, but smaller wheels probably wouldn’t be available in Australia.

With a hundred-kW DC fast charger, Peugeot claims the e-2008 is capable of charging to 80% in 30 minutes.

The e-2008’s dual hatchback, the e-208, was recently updated with a new 115 kW/260 Nm electric motor (up to 15 kW) and a larger 51 kWh battery (with a usable capacity of 48. 1 kWh, up from 46. 6 kWh).

These improvements resulted in a 10. 5% accumulation in the claimed range, from 362 km to 400 km.

It’s unclear if and when those adjustments will be made in the e-2008, but Australian certification documents show that the old electric formula with the 100 kW engine will be unveiled at launch.

Peugeot Australia is seeking government approval for its new models within a year of the arrival of the first showrooms, suggesting that the first examples of the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 electric SUV could arrive in Australia before the end of this year.
