A female motorcycle passenger died when the driver of a stolen motorcycle crashed into the side of a car in St. Paul on Thursday night.
The incident happened around 10:05 p.m. at the intersection of White Bear and Ivy avenues, with St. Paul Police Department saying officers who arrived at the scene took over CPR on the female victim, who was initially receiving CPR from a person at the scene.
The victim, who was found approximately 30 feet from the crash site, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital. She, nor the driver, was wearing a helmet, witnesses told police.
A male driving the motorcycle fled from the scene on foot and as of Friday morning has not been located, St. Paul PD spokesperson Steve Linders said, noting that the motorcycle had been reported stolen from St. Paul.
A preliminary crash investigation has led police to believe the motorcyclist was northbound on White Bear Ave. when he “swung around another vehicle” that was waiting to turn west off of White Bear Ave. and hit the side of a Toyota Camry that was waiting to turn left onto Ivy Ave.
As the driver of the Camry began turning, the collision happened.
No arrests have been made and the identity of the victim has not been released.
The death toll from the virus in Minnesota is now 1,640.
The driver fled the scene and has not been arrested as of Friday morning.
The outbreak has been traced back to events that took place in late July.
An alleged fight involving several people is under investigation.
