Palmer Trucks is expanding and creating many new jobs in Indianapolis, Mayor Joe Hogsett and corporate executives announced at a news convention Tuesday morning.
The Kenworth network of corridors, based in Indianapolis, said it plans to create up to 220 new jobs until 2022. The company is investing $17 million to expand its Indianapolis operations, adding a new facility called Kenworth of Indianapolis East and upgrading its Indianapolis-West Kenworth Brokerage. Hiring will begin in August week, but programs can be submitted now.
Wages pay around $17 an hour and technicians earn between $30 and $32 per hour.
Gov. Eric Holcomb joined the mayor and corporate executives in an announcement of economic progress at 10:00 am, which took place at Celadon Group Inc.’s former 140,000-square-foot facility near North Post Road on East 30th Street on this side. The former Celadon will be where Kenworth of Indianapolis East will be located.
Celadon filed an application in December and closed its Indianapolis-based truck operations.
At its west-looking facility on Holt Road, Palmer will locate its power generation operations and truck appliances. Palmer said investments will expand its in the trucking industry while expanding the power and long-term production of its manufacturing, hydraulic force and truck appliances division.
Founded in Indianapolis in 1965, Palmer Trucks is a network of full-service Kenworth dealers serving Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois, according to the company’s website. He now employs more than six hundred people.
Indiana Economic Development Corp. presented Palmer Trucks with up to $2.9 million in tax credits conditioned by performance in job creation.
The company can claim incentives once Indiana is hired.
