The Oxford City Council is installing 90 new parking spaces for motorcycles in the city centre.
Please note that 72 parking spaces for bicycles will be installed until the end of August. This will see 24 spaces on Speedwell Street, Outdoor Tesco, 24 spaces on Speedwell Street, Oxford Crown Court outdoors and 24 spaces on New Road.
The installation of the new road will also come with the replacement and modernization of 24 existing bicycle parking spaces. The remaining 18 spaces will be installed on Ship Street by the end of September, when the street scaffolding is completed.
The 90 spaces are added to the additional motorcycle parking spaces that city and county councils are installing as a component of measures for the reopening of Oxford after the closure of COVID-19.
The city council installed 130 more motorcycle parking spaces at its Park and Ride sites in June, with the aim of offering more capacity once the outlets are reopened. The Oxfordshire County Council is also installing bike parking spaces on Oxford Parkway and Thornhill Park and Ride and in the city.
The city, county and SDG are exploring a new stretch of sites. The Oxfordshire County Council should make an announcement about new sites in the coming weeks.
“Our transparent purpose (health, reduced air pollutants and reduced congestion) is to inspire more people to opt for motorcycles to get to the city centre of Oxford, and we know that the lack of motorcycle parking is one of the obstacles to achieving it,” said Councillor Louise Upton, a member of the company for a safer and healthier Oxford.
“The help of our colleagues at Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford University, as well as the recommendation of our on-site disability forum, has been invaluable. We continue to look for new locations for more motorcycle parking as the number of cyclists increases again, and we expect businesses and organizations to install safe parking for motorcycles for their staff and consumers on their own grounds. ODS will be pleased to offer you the installation of a small amount of safe media. »
