Mazda settled a chic lawsuit in the United States over faulty valve stem seals that led to excessive engine oil intake for several 2021 and 2022 models across the country.
While the exact amount of the settlement has not been made public, affected car owners who saw a “Low Engine Oil” warning message in the tool group prior to a 7,500-mile (12,070 km) oil replacement period or one year may be eligible for safe benefits.

A lawsuit filed against Mazda claims that faulty valve stem seals can allow engine oil to leak into the combustion chambers and lead to excessive oil consumption. It also alleges that owners will have to fill up with oil between normal oil replacement periods and that dealers have already earned technical service announcements related to the seals. Although Mazda settled the lawsuit, it denied all allegations and did not admit wrongdoing.

All affected cars are supplied with Mazda’s 2. 5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Owners and lessees of affected models may submit a request for insurance reimbursement beyond oil replacement expenses and for the purchase of additional motor oil between oil replacement intervals. The 8 plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit will get $2,200, while the lawyers representing Mazda consumers will get $2,035,000.
Through the agreement, Mazda will publish a technical service newsletter/campaign. If owners wish to receive compensation, their cars must have displayed a caution light on the engine oil level or, if the car is registered in the MyMazda mobile app, they must have registered a “Low Engine Oil Level” alert before the normal oil replacement interval.
Property owners who didn’t see a soft warning but still filled up with oil, will need to submit receipts or invoices documenting it. The complaint bureaucracy must be filed until October 19, 2024. Mazda will also extend the powertrain warranty of the affected automobiles from 60 months/60,000 miles (96,560 km) to 84 months or 84,000 miles (135,185 km).
