Osceola Magic’s Mac McClung Named 2023-24 Kia NBA G League MVP

Osceola hosts Long Island for a G League playoff at Silver Spurs Arena tonight

OSCEOLA – The NBA G League gives players the opportunity to expand as Americans and teammates, while demonstrating why they deserve more opportunities.

During the Osceola Magic’s 2023-24 campaign, Mac McClung has taken full advantage of what the G League has to offer.

On Friday, the 6-foot-2 guard known for his excellent work was named MVP of the 2023-24 G League.

“It means a lot; I have an idea because it shows the relentlessness of my story,” McClung said. “Maybe they think of me as a dumper. Maybe you’re thinking of me as a standout film. And last year, I said I couldn’t shoot, but then I shot (almost 40 percent) three. This year, I’m the MVP of the G League. It’s one of the proudest moments in my life (because it shows) this never-ending search.

While McClung is a consummate dumper, as his back-to-back NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk championships would indicate, he has proven himself to be a well-rounded basketball player this season.

During Osceola’s 2023-24 campaign, McClung led the entire G League in scoring with 25. 7 points per game on 50. 9% shooting from the box and 39. 6% from 3-point range. He averaged 4. 7 rebounds, 6. 6 assists and 1. 3 steals per outing.

“Coach (Dylan) Murphy put me in the right position (to be successful),” McClung said of Osceola’s freshman head coach. “He needs me to be aggressive, to keep going and move forward. “

His sensational season has been a big component of the good fortune of the Osceola team. The Magic’s G League club finished its normal season campaign with a 22-12 record, the record in the East. Osceola also averaged a league-high 120. 1 consistent points. He shot a career-high 49. 4% from the field.

“From the general managers to the coaches to the players and the skill that we have, that’s a credit to all of that,” McClung explained. “We have some of the most productive players in the league on our team right now. they’re all together. I feel like (this good luck is due to) a mixture of things.

McClung will now look to showcase his ability on the G League playoff stage. After a first-round break, Osceola will host the Long Island Nets at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee on Friday at 7 p. m. y. There are still tickets for this contest here.

Among the many other talented players on Osceola’s roster are Orlando stars Kevon Harris and Trevelin Queen, as well as rookie Jett Howard, whom the Magic decided with the 11th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

“It’s unbelievable,” McClung said of Osceola’s collection of skills. “When I was given this leadership role, I like a sacred cow, I have a lot of mouths to feed. (laughs) But the biggest challenge for me has been helping me grow. and being surrounded by players who are NBA players. I feel like now I can make the transition (to the NBA) even better than I did last year, because I’m used to betting on guys who want shots and (I had to) figure it out. How to give them the ball in some casos. Situaciones. Es a lot of fun to play with all this skill.

The Magic’s G League team returns to the playoffs for the first time since 2021, when they won the championship in the Disney bubble. This is the fourth playoff for them since their Florida debut in the 2017-18 season (there was no G League playoffs in 2020 due to the pandemic). They played at Lakeland from 2017 to 2023 before moving to Osceola Heritage Park before the start of this season.

The G League is the official progression league of the NBA, preparing players, coaches, officials, coaches, and primary workplaces for careers in the NBA, while also acting as a laboratory for league studies and progression. The G League has 31 teams, 29 of which have individual affiliations with NBA franchises.
