Osceola hosts Long Island for a G League playoff at Silver Spurs Arena tonight
OSCEOLA – The NBA G League gives players the opportunity to expand as Americans and teammates, while demonstrating why they deserve more opportunities.
During the Osceola Magic’s 2023-24 campaign, Mac McClung has taken full advantage of what the G League has to offer.
On Friday, the 6-foot-2 guard known for his excellent work was named MVP of the 2023-24 G League.
“It means a lot; I have an idea because it shows the relentlessness of my story,” McClung said. “Maybe they think of me as a dumper. Maybe you’re thinking of me as a standout film. And last year, I said I couldn’t shoot, but then I shot (almost 40 percent) three. This year, I’m the MVP of the G League. It’s one of the proudest moments in my life (because it shows) this never-ending search.
While McClung is a consummate dumper, as his back-to-back NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk championships would indicate, he has proven himself to be a well-rounded basketball player this season.
During Osceola’s 2023-24 campaign, McClung led the entire G League in scoring with 25. 7 points per game on 50. 9% shooting from the box and 39. 6% from 3-point range. He averaged 4. 7 rebounds, 6. 6 assists and 1. 3 steals per outing.
“Coach (Dylan) Murphy put me in the right position (to be successful),” McClung said of Osceola’s freshman head coach. “He needs me to be aggressive, to keep going and move forward. “
His sensational season has been a big component of the good fortune of the Osceola team. The Magic’s G League club finished its normal season campaign with a 22-12 record, the record in the East.
