The Bikeriders first opened in theaters in June and arrived on on-call video a few weeks ago. Now, the crime drama of the time about a motorcycle gang in the 1960s can be freely streamed at home.
The film stars Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook and more and follows the story of the fictional gang Vandals, at the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. The film is in an e-book of photographs of the same call through photographer Danny Lyon (also a character in the photo).
The film will be the opening film of the 50th Telluride Film Festival in 2023 and was originally scheduled to premiere in December 2023, which was postponed due to the writers’ strike, which prevented actors from selling the film.
The Bikeriders has a respectable critical score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes (75% of the public). The general consensus among critics is that this is a forged and well-crafted period piece with performances that can be a bit quiet. A forged character study where not enough happens to keep things interesting, but still worth checking out.
I missed this one in theaters, which is why I’m so excited for it to come to Peacock today. Yes, it may not be your favorite streaming service (someday I’m sure it will move to Netflix), but it’s more than just spending $20 on VOD.
The film was written and directed by Jeff Nichols, whose other films include Take Shelter, Mud, and Midnight Special.
