Older Ford and Mazda Owners Are Told “Don’t Drive”

The consequences of Takata’s harmful airbag inflators continue unabated, several years after the problem first appeared, and they are harmful. This time, Ford and Mazda forensic experts are warning owners of certain models with defective bags to park their cars and avoid driving them, all in the wake of safety.

That’s about 146,650 Ford cars and about 71,000 Mazda cars in Canada, cars that have not yet been subject to recalls related to the Takata airbag fiasco. Ford notes that the widely reported number of 160,900 cars actually corresponds to the number of problematic airbag inflators in Canada. the desert that considers them.

To explain the problem, Mazda says that the age of these vehicles, some of which are more than 20 years old, makes it increasingly imaginable that airbag inflators could explode, causing sharp steel fragments to hit the driver or passengers. time for anyone and turns unrepaired recalled cars into ticking time bombs.

Sticking with Mazda for a moment, the company mentioned the following machines under this driving order:

On some models, the driver and passenger airbag inflators could be affected, while on others, the recall only affects the passenger side.

Astute readers will recognize that this is an era in which Ford and Mazda shared a lot in terms of engineering, which is why many Blue Oval machines also fall under the spell of this order. They include:

Like Mazdas, some are included for driver and passenger airbag parts, while others are only on the passenger side.

Parts can now be had at Mazda and Ford dealerships, with the latter suggesting that owners can even take advantage of a cellular service that will reach them, given the no-drive order and all. Ford is also promising a loaner vehicle, a device that, ironically, will likely be several orders of magnitude newer than the one being serviced.

We wonder how many of those machines are languishing in recycling centers or rotting in someone’s backyard, given their age. Sure, owners must notify Big Brother when a vehicle is destroyed, but we all know several that simply disappear from the books. and a very unscientific study done at Kenny-U-Pull shows about two hundred Ranger trucks at their work sites across Canada, and that’s just one of thousands.

Ford and Mazda are the only brands that suffer problems with Takata. Transport Canada has a full list of affected models, with 140 entries. Major recalls began a decade ago, with smaller campaigns dating back almost to the time when we were all talking about the Y2K virus.
